Our Aim

The annual MathConceptition provides an opportunity for all kindergarteners, primary school and secondary school students to challenge their skills with other mathematically gifted children in the Greater Bay Area and offers a chance for them to compete for championship!

Open to students attending kindergartens, primary schools and secondary schools. Participants are categorized into eleven different grades according to their birthyear OR current (2025/26) school year.

Each student can participate in ONE grade and register ONCE only. In case of contravention, participant shall be disqualified. His/her results attained will be cancelled. Registration fee will not be refunded.

Contest Format

The MathConceptition consists of:

Inter-School Contest Individual Contest
Gradings
  • Open to primary schools and lower secondary schools
  • 6 primary school grades : P1, P2, P3, P4, P5 and P6
  • 3 secondary school grades : S1, S2 and S3
  • 11 grades in total
  • 2 kindergarten grades: K2 and K3
  • 6 primary school grades : P1, P2, P3, P4, P5 and P6
  • 3 secondary school grades : S1, S2 and S3
Format
Participants are required to work individually to complete every question in the written test. All questions will be given in Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese and English. For K2 and K3, questions are recorded in Cantonese and English, each question will be played twice during the contest.

  • There is no limit to the number of student representatives a school may nominate for the Inter-school Contest (Each grade includes 3 free entry slots).
  • Team Ranking of each grade: Based on the combined score of the top 3 school representatives in each grade.
  • Overall School Ranking:
    • Based on the combined scores of the top 3 representatives in each grade (18 students for Primary, 9 students for Secondary).
Rankings are based on the individual scores of participants
Registration
  • Registered by School Teachers (Free of charge):

    Registration Period: 1st December 2025 – 18th January 2026

    Each school is offered with 3 free entry slots per grade. Teachers may nominate 3 students from each grade to participate in the Inter-school Contest for free. The individual scores of all nominated students will also be automatically submitted to compete in the Individual Contest.

    Teachers may complete the registration procedures by logging into the inter-school contest registration system. Login details can be found on the invitation letter sent to your school.

  • Registered by Parents (MOP$350 Registration Fee):

    Registration Period: 9th January 2026 – 24th January 2026

    Parents or guardians may register their child to participate in the Inter-school contest on behalf of their school. His/her score will also be automatically submitted to compete in the Individual Contest.

    Parents or guardians shall fill in the “Inter-school Code” (which shall be provided to students by their school) during online registration.

  • Registered by Parents (MOP$400 Registration Fee):

    Registration Period: 9th January 2026 – 24th January 2026

    Parents or guardians may register their child for the Individual Contest by filling out the online registration form and completing the payment procedures. Alternatively, they can download and complete the individual contest registration form and submit it to MathConcept Education Headquarters.

  • Individual Contest — Open to students from Hong Kong, Macau, GBA and Canada. There are 11 grades in total (2 kindergarten grades, 6 primary school grades and 3 secondary school grades). Parents and guardians may enroll their child to compete in the Individual Contest.
  • Inter-School Contest — Open to primary schools and secondary schools. There are 9 grades in total (6 primary school grades and 3 secondary school grades). There is no limit to the number of student representatives a school may nominate for the Inter-school Contest. Students will compete the contest individually. Combined scores of the top 3 students from each grade will be counted towards the Inter-School Contest. The individual scores of all nominated students will also be automatically submitted to compete in the Individual Contest.

Participants are required to work individually to complete every question in the written test. All questions will be given in Traditional Chinese, Simplified Chinese and English. Past papers for K2 – K3, P1 – P6 and  S1 – S3 can be found on our website.

K2 – K3

  • Time allowed: 30 minutes. Questions are recorded in Cantonese and English. Each question will be played twice during the contest.
  • Contain 20 multiple choice questions, each question is weighted differently.
  • Participants must circle the most appropriate answer on the question booklet.

P1 – P6

  • Time allowed: 50 minutes.
  • Contain 40 short questions, each question is weighted differently. Questions in Part One are based on HKEDB Syllabus and questions in Part Two are more advanced and contest oriented.
  • Participants must write their answers on the answer sheet provided. Calculation steps are not required

S1 – S3

  • Time allowed: 60 minutes.
  • Contain 20 questions, each question is weighted differently. Questions in Part One are based on HKEDB Syllabus and questions in Part Two are more advanced and contest oriented.
  • Participants must write their answers on the answer sheet provided. Calculation steps are not required.

Ranking and Awards

Ranking for Individual Contest

Participants are ranked according to their scores (only top 50% scorers will be given a ranking). If two or more participants attain the same score, the following criteria will be applied in the order given to determine their final rankings:

  1. The participant with the higher score of question answered correctly will receive the higher rank.
  2. The participant with the later date of birth will receive the higher rank.

Each particpant will have two rankings:

K2 and K3 participants are required to arrive 20 minutes in advance, while P1 – P6 and S1 – S3 participants are required to arrive 30 minutes in advance.

Limited by the venue setting, there will be multiple sessions for K2 and K3 contest. Parents/guardians can choose their preferred timeslot during online registration. Quota for each timeslot is limited and seats will be offered on a first-come-first-served basis. Once the registration is confirmed, participant will not be able to change his/her contest timeslot.

The above schedule is for reference only, the final schedule might be adjusted and it will be listed on the admit card. No dispute shall be raised by the participant. If a participant fails to attend his/her allocated contest session, he/she will be withdrawn from the contest and his/her registration fee will not be refunded.

Admit Card

Teacher in-charge of inter-school contest and participant of individual contest should login to the participant portal between 10th February 2026 and 16th February 2026, to check their personal information, contest session and seat number. If the participant’s personal information is inaccurate, please contact the organizer on or before 20th February 2026, or a service charge of $50 (per item) may apply for any amendment requested after the forementioned date.

On the day of the contest, participants are required to arrive with their self-printed admit card and identification document or schooling proofs showing his/her full name, grade and/or date of birth with photo (e.g. ID, student handbook or school report). Printing services will be provided on the day of the contest with the handling fee of $50 per item.

Results

Winner list will be announced on 15th May 2026 (12PM) on our website. Teacher in-charge of inter-school contest and participant of individual contest may download their contest report by logging into participant portal within 90 days starting from 15th May 2026 (12PM).

Prize Collection Arrangements

Shortlisted winners will receive an invitation letter in June 2026.

General Rules

In any case, anyone failing to meet the terms and rules stated below shall be disqualified. His/her result attained will be cancelled. Registration fee will not be refunded.

  6. Participants may not leave the contest venue early.
  7. Anyone (including participants) who causes nuisance in the competition venue will be asked to leave the venue or even be disqualified from the competition.
  8. All electronic devices should be switched off in the contest venue. Calculators are not allowed.
  9. Participants are NOT allowed to take away the answer sheet, question booklet or any roughwork sheets.
  10. Any person who would like to lodge an enquiry or dispute against the contest questions or procedures taken during the contest, he/she should report to an invigilator within 15 minutes after the end of the contest.
  11. In case of any disputes, the Organizer’s decision is final.

Terms and condition

  1. MathConceptition has the right to modify the published regulations, events, arrangements or other information. Any changes to the content will be announced on the website. All information is subject to the latest announcement on the Internet.
  2. When Typhoon Warning Signal Pre-No 8 or above/ Black Rainstorm Warning is issued or still in force after 6:30 am, the competition concerned will be postponed, details will be announced through our website.
  3. Once the registration is confirmed, regardless of the reason, registration fee will not be refunded, nor will it be transferred to others or used for other purposes. If the contest is rescheduled or cancelled due to the epidemic, registration fees will be deferred. If a participant fails to attend the contest on the reschedule date, his/her application will be withdrawn and registration fee cannot be refunded.
  4. MathConcept Education reserves the right to use photos or videos taken during the competition and ceremony for promotional activities.
  5. If a prize runs out of stock or not available due to other circumstances, the Organizer reserves the right to substitute that prize with another item without prior notice.
  6. MathConcept Education reserves the right to suspend, modify or terminate this event and event organizing party or any of these terms and conditions without prior notice.
  7. By submitting an entry in the contest, the participants agree to be bound by the above general rules and terms and conditions. The Organizer reserves the right to disqualify any participant or cancel any award if it believes a breach of these terms and conditions has occurred. No appeals shall be accepted.

In case of any discrepancy between the English version and the Chinese version, the Chinese version shall prevail

Your personal data held by MathConcept Education will be kept confidential but MathConcept Education may transfer your personal data to a data processor (e.g. printer, production house or providers of mailing services) engaged by MathConcept Education to process or handle personal data on its behalf, subject to a duty of confidentiality.
